Producers of radical culture.

Strangers in a Tangled Wilderness is a collectively-run publisher of radical culture. With your support, we publish stories, games, comics, podcasts, recipes, music, and yes, even some essays and theory.

Mission

Strangers in a Tangled Wilderness is a media publishing collective dedicated to producing and curating inclusive and intersectional culture that is informed by anarchistic ideals. We aim to be inclusive in that we want to reach people who have not previously felt welcomed by existing subcultural and countercultural media. We intend to be intersectional in that our politics are not limited to individual issues. We are informed by anarchistic ideals, which is to say that we each, under various labels and coming from various backgrounds, desire a world without coercive hierarchies such as patriarchy, colonialism, capitalism, or state control. We make no claim about the individual politics of our individual contributors, of course, but these are the principles that guide us in selecting work.

There is a place for political theory, and we might publish some of it from time to time, but that’s not what we’re about. Since 2003, Strangers In A Tangled Wilderness has published fiction, comics, poetry, memoir, pop culture analysis, and history. We’re as liable to publish cookbooks, plays, or how-to guides as we are to publish theory or analysis of current events.

We’re not looking to gatekeep, we’re looking for content that blows the gates off their hinges and makes more people from more walks of life with more interests feel welcome. We’re looking for content that doesn’t know where else it fits in, for people who don’t know where else they fit in.
